MACH-TECH - INDUSTRY DAYS 2017 - the point of reference

The MACH-TECH and INDUSTRY DAYS joint exhibitions concluded a four day run successful than ever before. This year, over 420 exhibitors from 19 countries took part in the professional gathering at the HUNGEXPO Budapest Fair Center from 9-12 May. Numerous important economic announcements were made at the exhibitions.

At the greatest industrial gathering in Hungary, all key sectors which play a leading role in the spread of industrial digitalization, or industry 4.0, were represented at the event. Computer and other machine industry operators, robotics manufacturers, electronic firms, representatives of logistics and automation specialists were present in great numbers at the Budapest Fair Center. 16,700 people visited the exhibitions over the course of the four days, which is an over 10 percent increase compared to the number of visitors two years ago.

According to Gábor Ganczer, CEO of Hungexpo, there hasn't been such great interest in the MACH-TECH and INDUSTRY DAYS exhibitions for quite some time now, which is mainly due to the changes taking place in the industry.

At the exhibition's opening ceremony, Minister of National Economy Mihály Varga announced another HUF 15 billion framework for the Large Enterprise Investment Program (NBT). The ministry launched the program in 2015 and at the time 14 and last year 35 large enterprises received subsidies. As an analogy to Industry Days, the minister referred to our age as the weeks, months and years of (Hungarian) industry and highlighted that industry 4.0 would change our entire way of thinking. In the near future, nearly one-tenth of workplaces will be terminated or reconfigured due to digitization, which poses a serious challenge for educational and advanced training or retraining institutions.

If Hungary wishes to achieve sustainable economic growth which can ensure that the country catches up, the resources must be channeled into innovative industries, said secretary of state for economic regulation of the Ministry for National Economy (NGM) István Lepsényi at the NGM's thematic day. The secretary of state highlighted that supplier development is of key importance for the government, for which they dedicated HUF 14 billion through programs over a two year period. As an example, he mentioned the creation of sample factories developed through the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Program in a value of HUF 2.5 billion through the cooperation of large enterprises, which allowed small and mid-size enterprises to get acquainted with the opportunities offered by digitization and Industry 4.0.

At the NGM's thematic day, domestic and foreign lecturers dealt with the various issues of technological development and its effects on general economic growth.

Additionally, over a dozen conferences, roundtable discussions and professional events complemented the exhibitions. Due to the growing interest of exhibitors, these programs where hosted in a separate (F) pavilion. The many events on offer included the highly popular MAJOSZ traditional automotive and machine industry supplier forum, co-hosted by the German Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce where over 150 business negotiations took place between suppliers and purchasing bodies. There was also high attendance at the conferences on energy efficiency as well as the labor issues of firms.

One of the key elements of the exhibition was the APPLICATION ZONE which was launched in 2013 and has undergone continuous development. The new, interactive presentation of exhibitors was also highly successful, which displayed machines and services in practice to the various interested parties.

For the third occasion, the exhibition included the GTE-AutoproTechtogether student competition, where 14 teams from 8 different universities competed with each other in the fields of manufacturing technology and Industry 4.0. The student teams attending the event from eight different universities solved quizzes, presented their Industry 4.0 knowledge through their vehicle constructions and, closely tied to the exhibition, they also answered questions related to expo-caching questions. This year, the OECO team of the Óbuda University won the competition.
